He passed away peacefully in Spokane leaving his wife, Judy, of seventy-two years, two sons, Bari (Trina) of Lincoln City, OR, Lynn (Sherry) of Foothills, three granddaughters, Shannon Johnson of Troy, NY, Charlyn (Kyle) Dalvit of Bellingham, WA, Renee (Scott) Shaw and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Esme Shaw of Spokane. Dad was born and raised in Foothills, WA, where his grandparents settled in the 1880's. He attended Foothills School and graduated from West Valley High School in 1936. He married Julia Bolser on August 16, 1941. Dad's career began when he was young working around the ranch on threshing machines, and helping operate the saw mill. He and his brother worked at harvest time tying sacks of grain and keeping the equipment running. During the war, he worked at Fairchild AFB in the propeller shop. In 1948, he went to work for the Washington Water Power Co. in the Construction and Maintenance Department until retiring in 1981. Dad enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and RVing. They traveled around the country visiting different places and friends and family for many years. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and at Millwood Presbyterian Church. He always was available if a neighbor needed help with a project or solving a problem. Celebration of Roger's life will be held at the Millwood Presbyterian Church at 2 PM, Saturday, May 3, 2014. In lieu of flowers, Dad would appreciate donations to the Millwood Presbyterian Church or the Pleasant Prairie Cemetery.
