MILLS, CHARLOTTE

[br][br]The Rev. Charlotte Mills The Rev. Charlotte (Char) Mills, 77, died June 25 as the result of an automobile accident north of Spokane. A native of Los Angeles, she graduated from Whitworth College in 1961 and returned to Los Angeles where she married Robert (Bob) Mills in 1963. The couple moved to Spokane in 1976, settling in Deer Park. During her time in Spokane she worked at Hewlett Packard. She was also involved in a variety of volunteer positions with groups that assisted low-income people. She chaired the board of Caritas Ministries and served on the board of Habitat for Humanity. She often served as a volunteer at the West Central Episcopal Mission. She was also a leader in outreach ministries in the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane and in her parish, St. David's Episcopal Church. In 2004 Char and Bob spent a year in Belfast, Northern Ireland, coordinating the efforts of American Habitat For Humanity volunteers in that city. She was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church in 2010 after completing a course of study and continued in her ministry to the poor. She is survived by a daughter, Susan Bratcher of Nashville TN, niece Melinda Mills of Annapolis CA, niece Molly Mills of Alameda CA, and nephew Jeff Mills of Portland OR. Her husband, Bob, died April 14. A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. July 18 at St. David's Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St. Spokane. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity, St. David's Episcopal Church, Caritas Ministries or the West Central Episcopal Mission.
