Fumiye "Fudge" Funakoshi passed away April 9, 2015, in Hayden, ID, at the age of 90. Fumiye was born October 13, 1924, in Sumner, WA to Yonachi and Asano Kirihara. During World War II, she and her family were interned at the Minidoka Relocation Center in southern Idaho. After the war, she relocated to Spokane, where she met and married U.S. Army veteran Roy Funakoshi. They had two children, Michael and Joann. Affectionately known as "Fudge" to friends and family, she worked for many years as a bookkeeper at the Spokane Produce Company. After Roy's retirement, the couple moved to California, where they enjoyed the warm climate, travel, and seeing the sights. They eventually settled in San Diego, where they lived until Roy's passing in 1997. Fudge then moved back to Spokane to be near friends and family. Fudge was a quiet person who also possessed determination and spunk. She liked to garden when she was able, enjoyed cross-stitch, and always wanted "to keep her hands busy." She spent many happy years living with the family of her daughter Joann, and loved the company of the family dogs, Kobe and Kooper. She is deeply missed as a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Fudge is survived by her son Michael, daughter-in-law Peggi, and grandson Jonathan in Irvine, CA, and her daughter Joann, son-in-law Bob, and granddaughter Amy in Hayden, ID. She leaves behind surviving brothers and sisters Tosh Kirihara, Mitzi Saiki, Kaz Kirihara, Johnny Kirihara, Jimmy Kirihara, Michael Kirihara, Hollie Kirihara, Patsy Bush, and their families. There will be no services at Fudge's request. Family requests donations be made in Fudge's name to Hospice of North Idaho in Hayden, ID.
